Free Spell for July: Attracting the forest folk/ land wights

When crossing beyond the hedge you not only expose yourself to its flora and fauna, but also to its presence.
When crossing beyond the hedge you not only expose yourself to its flora and fauna, but also to its presence.

When traversing the woods or local forests, has it ever crossed your mind that you felt as if you weren't alone in there? Sure there are the forest critters but spiritually the land itself holds many beings that we cannot conventually explain nor visibly see, but we could understand them by means of working with them in a relationship.

These beings in question are known as land wights and this term encompasses a broad definition of forest beings from guardians of a certain area or simply the manifestation of a natural feature of the land. However in rare occasions they may appear as humanoid figures before the practitioner, with these manifestations being described as a person who is both pale and fair. Although their appearances display gender neutral forms they are prone to take on the likeness of a more feminine being, which may give the impression of them resembling a pale lady of english folklore or even a manifestation of a local goddess.

Although they could be seen as wild and unpredicitable, they could be used to our benefit as they could provide us the access of their natural resources! But in order to for us to reap these rewards we must first built a proper relationship with these beings otherwise they'll strike you as rude and arrogant, after all YOU'RE the stranger in their house so be respectful of it.

To attract their presence and gain their favor simply gather a large leaf (sycamore leaves work best for this), some honey, and some fresh fruit or nuts.

Trace this sigil below on the leave using your honey to the best of your ability, and as you do recite this simple charm to enhance the working:

ree

By the verdant powers of the land and trees.

I speak out loud under your shade and leaves.

Come collect my offering local wights,

And have your presence be seen in my sight!

After consecrating your leaf platter place it near the base of a tree, a dense thicket, running river or stream, or even a unique natural feature and knock on the ground three times to get their attention. Now place your fruit or nuts upon it and leave the area without looking back, as turning around so quickly to catch a peek of them is considered rude. Give it a day or two before you return to the spot and repeat this process as needed, as you do this also start the habit of simply talking to the local wight out loud (believe me they love hearing compliments!). However one of the best methods I have found when developing a relationship with local land wights is by simply being respectful of their territory, and by picking up litter around their area.

Overtime you will begin to notice the energy of the land feel lighter and happier whenever you apporach it, for at this point the land wights will begin to see you as familar face in their home. Now it is good practice to expect nothing from your good deeds however if the land senses it is done with good intentions and is justly, it shall reward you accordingly.

There are countless times where I've done seemingly small favors for the land that have given me wonderful gifts or finding new herbs, bones, and even hagstones in rare occasions! But again this process took some time, but eventually you too shall reap what you have sown when you do the land a favor.
